How do I search for animals and objects?

To find an animal or an object in the village, open the storage, select what you are looking for, and tap the magnifying glass above the icon with the object. The magnifying glass will show an animal or a resource that you can use to get the desired item. 

Also, a hint with a magnifying glass opens when you tap the missing resource. Tap it, and you can find out the location of the object.
